CLASSES

Drafting and Engineering Courses at Johnsburg High School are developed for students interested or pursuing a career in engineering or drafting.  These courses are heavily focused on Projects where students are required to think outside the box to solve a problem.  We also work heavily using the Autodesk product suite, including AutoCAD, Inventor Professional , and Revit .  We compete in both the Illinois Drafting Educators Association annual competition, as well as the SkillsUSA annual compeition.

Our welding program at JHS, consists of 2, year-long welding courses.  In these courses, the focus is on Gas Metal Arc Welding and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding, with small units in Shielded Metal Arc Welding, and Oxy-Aceteylene welding.  We also complete various sheet metal projects throughout the program.  Focus is put on quality of work, professionalism, and advancement of student's technical ability.  Projects include, a blueprint reading project, a precision meausring project, a sheet metal tool box, and the Welding Technology II course is responsible for a large, year long project as a team.

The Manufacturing program at JHS culminates in a Dual-Credit course offered through McHenry County College, where students earn 3 college credits at MCC at no cost to them.  Students learn various skills needed to perform at an entry level, this includes blueprint reading, precision measuring tools and techniques, and manufacturing operations including engine lathe, vertical end-mill, precision grinder, hand grinder, bench grinder, and the drill press.  Students complete various projects throughout the year, with a long term project as the end goal.
